Malaysia Day is held on September 16 every year to commemorate the establishment of the Malaysian federation on the same date in 1963. It marked the joining together of Malaya, North Borneo (now known as Sabah), Sarawak, and Singapore to form Malaysia. In August 1965, Tunku Abdul Rahman demanded Singapore to leave the federation due to the Chinese population in Singapore is three-quarters more than Malaya's main population, which is Malays.
Currently, the day is a holiday for Sabanh and Sarawak as the official birthdays of their respective Yang di-Pertua Negeris. Anyway, the Government had declared September 16 as a public holiday from next year in a spirit of One Malaysia.
