Chu 15 - Chap Goh Mei 2012

Yuanxiao (元宵) or better known as Chap Goh Mei Festival; is a festival that celebrated on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunar year in the Chinese calendar and also showed that it is the last day of Chinese New Year celebration.

The first month of the Chinese calendar is called 'yuan', and in ancient times people called night as 'xiao'; therefore, the day is called Yuan Xiao Festival in mainland and Taiwan. The fifteenth day is the first night one can see a full moon in that lunar year. At this time, people will 'tangyuan'(glutinous rice ball) and enjoy a family reunion. Eating 'tangyuan' on the fifteenth day of Chinese New Year has a long history in China. Chinese believes the round shape of the balls and the bowls where they served, come to symbolize the family togetherness. It can bring the family happiness and good luck in the new year.

The full moon

Same like previous year, bf n I will back to Klang for Chap Goh Mei dinner.  A simple dinner comes with chicken, fish, vegetables, pork and soup. (Busy eating.. forget to snap photos).

Right after our dinner, bf suddenly take a pack of plastic bag out from a cupboard. *Wondering what is inside the plastic bag.* Followed him out and only realized that the plastic bag was contained some fire crackers @_@

Chu 1 - Old Town White Coffee @ Rapid Mall

It's the first day of Chinese New Year. Woke up early in the morning, wishing parents a very Happy Chinese New Year.. Gong Xi Fa Cai.. =D The most important is having a good health and a prosperous year ahead.. ^_* Getting an ang pow from daddy and mommy.. =D

According to the elderly, red packets a.k.a ang pows are typically given by the married to the unmarried especially to the children. The red color of the envelope is symbolizes good luck and is supposed to ward off the evil spirits. The act of requesting for ang pows is normally called 討紅包, 要利是 (Mandarin); 逗利是 (Cantonese). The amount of money contained in the envelope usually ends with an even digit, as for the odd-numbered money gifts are traditionally associated with funeral. The money should not given in fours, or the number four should not appear in the amount, such as in 40. 44 and 444, as the pronunciation of the word "four" resembles that of the word of "death" and thus signifies bad luck for many Chinese. (Information from Wikipedia)

Ok, no more grandmother stories about the ang pows. Back to my origin post. =D hehe

After getting ang pow from parents, get ready to go for breakfast. Hmm, really cracking head thinking of what to eat. Every where is jammed and packed with people. Once a year, everyone is back to hometown to have a big gathering/ reunion with family and friends. Finally we made a decision and came to here, Oldtown White Coffee, which is located at Rapid Mall Seri Intan, opposite of McDonald's.
